“Life begins each morning.” – Joel Osteen
Despite the dark skies and the gloomy weather that signals the beginning of the monsoon season here in Manila, I am still up and about – excited to start my Miracle Morning.
So what is The Miracle Morning?
I’ve heard of The Miracle Morning many months ago. All the top podcasters and bloggers that I’m following have been raving about it.
First of all, it’s the title of a best-selling book by author Hal Elrod called “The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed To Transform Your Life… (Before 8AM)”.
Second, it’s a morning routine based on what Hal Elrod calls the Life SAVERS, with S-A-V-E-R-S being an acronym for:
S – Silence
A – Affirmations
V – Visualization
E – Exercise
R – Reading
S – Scribing
I have never thought of doing The Miracle Morning while I was in my corporate job simply because I didn’t have the time then. However, when I “retired” last month, I felt I needed to have a morning ritual to keep my sanity and not have any withdrawal symptoms after working in an office for 18 years.
Then I met Mike Grogan, an Irish guy who was my student during one of my workshops and who reintroduced me to The Miracle Morning. Like me, he did not exercise nor meditate, which are key ingredients of The Miracle Morning. However, after reading the book and practising the Life SAVERS, he has noted big improvements in his life.
So, in one of our coaching calls, I asked Mike to teach me about the Life SAVERS. Mike was so enthusiastic about teaching me the principles of The Miracle Morning, we spent almost 2 hours talking about it. And his enthusiasm rubbed off on me, which me led me to take The Miracle Morning for a test drive, even if I had yet to read a page of the book.
My first day of retirement, I took a short walk outside our village. Now, I would have to tell you, I am neither a runner nor a jogger. I didn’t really hate it, I just found it boring. So, to keep myself entertained and motivated, I bought my smart phone and earbuds with me to listen to podcasts. To my surprise, I enjoyed it!
During my daily commute going to and from the office, I always listened to podcasts in my car stereo. But now that I am no longer travelling to work, I was glad to have found a block of time to listen to my podcasts during my morning walk.
Then, from my walk of about 15-30 minutes, I come back home, eat breakfast and do my meditations. Like running, I never liked meditating before but thanks to smartphone apps like Calm and Headspace, doing it was fun and easy.
Mike also suggested for me to listen to a podcast interview of the author himself, Hal Elrod. Mike said I didn’t really need to purchase and read the book anymore because Hal already talks about the “meat” of the book, the Life SAVERS. However, I got so inspired by the interview and seeing the results that The Miracle Morning has been giving me that I still bought myself a copy of the book from Amazon.com (I got the ebook version to read in the Kindle app of my iPad. Learn how to use Kindle here).
In only a matter of a few weeks, The Miracle Morning has already changed my life and I hope it will change yours too. Since the book is still not available locally the last time I checked, you can buy the ebook from Amazon.com using this link: www.freelanceblend.com/miraclemorning.
It’s so convenient, you don’t need to wait for or reserve a copy at National Bookstore. Why don’t you try it?
In my next article, I will discuss in more detail the Life SAVERS, how I implemented each aspect in my life and how you can use it to save your own disorganized life.
