UPDATE: I have erroneously uploaded the previous podcast episode (#29) for this week’s episode. Thanks to our avid listener, Ingrid, for pointing it out. Our listeners are so awesome! Sorry again and please try to download again this podcast episode.
Yes, I am a book worm. You can call me all the names that you would like to call me i.e. nerd, geek, slacker, etc. But I am really fascinated with books, most especially non-fiction books.
As I said during this podcast, I’m sorry but I hate fiction books. It really makes me drowsy (like antihystamine) and it takes me weeks, if not months, for me to finish just one book. Unlike most of you normal people, I have never ever read a page of popular books like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Twilight. Never. I would rather watch the movie and finish the story in 2 hours than spend months trying to finish the novel.
But, in a paradoxical way, when it comes to non-fiction books especially personal finance, marketing, online business, biographies of successful businessmen, “you change me”. Or in Filipino, “Ibahin mo ako.” You will always find me in those sections of Fully Booked spending hours reading them (for free) :). (Okay, so I might get banned from entering that bookstore. Oops.)
Then, if I don’t finish the book in that bookstore with the same initials as Freelance Blend and Face Book, I would then buy that book in my most favorite app in the world, my Kindle app. (How evil of me :)).
In this podcast, I will talk about the power of Kindle, Amazon’s ebook reading application, which will soon replace your favorite brick-and-mortar bookstore, just as iTunes did to your favorite brick-and-mortar record store. (Paging, Tower Records.)
Meanwhile, here are the Top 5 life-changing books for freelancers. I would attest that it changed mine, and I am sure that it will change yours. It will talk about them in more detail in the podcast.
1. The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss
2. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
3. Multiple Streams of Income by Robert Allen
4. Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh
5. The Lean Startup by Eric Ries
And there you have it, the top 5 life-changing books for freelancers. As I mentioned in the title, three of these books have inspired and enabled me to earn residual income. Therefore the lesson here is that you may read all 5 books but don’t take action. I would rather that you read just one then take action. Then read another, then take action again.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Freelancer, aside from the 5 books mentioned in this post, what non-fiction book or books changed your life? Please share in the comment box below.
