In 2013, I decided that it was time to finally test my idea. I wanted to know if there was a need for a freelancers’ community. So in November 9, 2013, I was surprised to see almost 30 fellow freelancers show up in the first ever Freelance Blend Meetup at Coffee Bean in Greenbelt 5. The number of attendees alone proved that indeed it was time for freelancers to come together.
Facilitating a meetup group has opened a lot of doors for me. I went on Facebook Live last Friday, talking about the benefits of organizing and joining meetups. (You can watch the Facebook Live video here).
- Joining Meetup.com
- Organizing your first meetup event
- Importance of establishing your own meetup group
- My first meetup group experience
- Advantages of having your own tribe
- Where Freelance Blend is today roughly 3 years after that first meetup
The result? From 0 to 900 members in 3 years, the Freelance Blend Manila Meetup group has grown and has truly become a crucial part of our freelancers’ community, with Freelance Blend adding more value to the group through blogs and podcasts.
